Brantford “Wolf” Makalski was seriously injured on a mission in Afghanistan along with his K-9, Bailey, causing them both to be unexpectedly medically discharged from duty. It was a devastating blow he did not see coming and he’s having a hard time readjusting to civilian life. Even forcing himself to continue his physical therapy to properly heal is taking a toll. His only saving grace at the moment to keep him from falling all the way is Bailey. Having Bailey by his side and continuing to help him heal has given Wolf a small purpose but he desperately needs to find his own foothold before it’s too late for him to recover from his decline. The problem is with him no longer being an active SEAL he has no idea what to do until he gets a call from an old acquaintance with an offer too intriguing to ignore, one that might help him to find his focus and direction. On the way to the meeting to discuss the specifics of the job he spots an accident off the road. A young woman unconscious and injured from a run in with a tree and bullet wound. Wolf’s training kicks in and his protective instincts rise to the forefront. With the help of his new job and new friends, he may have just found his purpose.Lacey Cooper is a woman on a mission. Once her life is threatened and she’s almost killed she finally gets the right people’s attention and Wolf and his new associates take over to help solve the mystery and find her family.I really enjoyed the suspense and mystery aspect of this one. I loved that along with getting to know Wolf and Lacey, we get to see what’s going on with Heather and Trace from their prospective. It gives the story more of a well-rounded feel and holds the suspense aspect throughout. Some of the discoveries are shocking and there are several twists and turns along the way. I also enjoyed the interactions with all the other characters; they had a wonderful rapport with an extended family-ish feel and even though most were newly acquainted they still worked like a well-oiled machine to get the job done. It was fun to watch Wolf and Lacey’s growing relationship; there were some sweet moments and some spicy ones. Action, adventure, danger, laughs, romance, and dogs! Overall, great read!The Hunt is book four in Desiree Holt’s Heroes Rising series and part of the Brotherhood Protectors world. You do not have to read the other stories to enjoy this one; it can be read as a stand-alone. Though previous books’ characters make appearances along with Hank Patterson and his wife. Wolf is a former SEAL who was medically discharged along with his dog. Lacey is a wildlife photographer who is looking for her missing sister and the sister's fiance. Lacey gets shot when she starts asking too many questions. Wolf becomes her bodyguard. There is an attraction between the two. I love the Brotherhood Protectors World stories and this is no exception. There is suspense, drama, and of course an attraction between the couple. Once you start this book you won't be able to put it down, it's a story that grabs your attention from the start. I am also a hopeless dog lover so, that's an added plus for me. I received this book for free for an honest review, HOWEVER, I also purchased this book because I love Desiree Holt's writing and this story was no exception.
